It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Nigel due to complications related to Covid.
Poppa will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Wilma (nee Wurtak), his sons, Daryn and Blake (Sheila), his daughter Beverly, his seven grandchildren, Cody, Liam, Alicia, Basil, Jaylinn, Karleaha (Ollie) and Desi, his sisters, Gyll (Stuart) and Cheryl (David), many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. We know his granddaughter Kaley Skye has greeted him in Heaven.
Nigel was born in Dover, England. His early years were spent with his family in Nairobi, Kenya. In 1960 he returned to England to attend Eastbourne College in Sussex.
In 1970 Nigel immigrated to Canada after meeting and marrying Wilma in London, England. He was employed by Westfair Foods/Loblaws for 41 years.
Nigel enjoyed many things but his children and grandchildren were his greatest loves, along with his dogs, camping, his motorhome, his ’82 Honda motorcycle, the cottage, the Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets and the aircraft of the World Wars.
The family would like to express their appreciation of the staff of St. Boniface Hospital ICMS ward for their kindness and compassionate care.
A family farewell and cremation have taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in March of 2024 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 4000 Portage Ave, date to be determined.

I became friends with Nigel when he spent his school holidays in Scotland with family as his folks were abroad. When they returned to the UK we went to visit them in I think it was East Grinstead certainly in Sussex and we got snowed in, amongst other adventures! This was in the late 60's and then he moved to Winnipeg. Great memories and I am sorry to hear he has shed this mortal existence albeit for better things....he was a great guy ! - Posted by: margaret(Maggie) driano (friend) on: Jan 16, 2025
