SAMUEL RESCHKE

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Samuel Reschke who went to be with the Lord on November 25, 2023, at the age of 87.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gertrud, of 65 years and his children: Heidi (David), Robert, Debbie (Harry), and Darlene; as well as his grandchildren: Staci (Kevin), Tammy (Scott), Justin (Jenelle), Isaac, Ava, Paige, and Anya; and his great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Rylee, Toby, Emily, and Ethan. He is also survived by his sisters, Lydia and Maria, as well as his brother, Herbert.

Samuel is predeceased by his parents, Gottlieb and Natalie Reschke, as well as his brother Arnold, sisters (Linda, Martha, and Alma), half-siblings (Ida, Elsa, Oskar, Erika and Alfred), and son-in-law Richard.

Samuel was born on October 10, 1936, in Berestovitz, Poland. After the Second World War, his family settled in Germany. Samuel immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his sister, Martha. He originally arrived in Quebec before travelling onward to Shellbrook, Saskatchewan where he went to live with his brother Arnold and worked on a farm. Samuel later moved to Winnipeg, where he met the love of his life, Gertrud, in 1957. He was a member of Mission Baptist Church for many years, where he sung in the Men's Choir and served as an usher and a deacon and also volunteered at the church's weekly Food Bank.

Samuel obtained his Certificate of Qualification in the trade of Painting & Decorating in 1958. He worked for Krahn Construction before starting his own business called "S. Reschke Painting & Decorating Co. Ltd." in 1959. He was well-known for his work ethic and professionalism in the trade, and builders sought him out.

Samuel will be remembered as a hardworking man who devoted his life to God and his family.

Funeral service will take place on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service located at 2146 Main Street with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mission Baptist International Foundation, 771 Sargent Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0B5 or a missionary of your choice.
