Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Great guidance counsellor, always remember him with a Volleyball in his hands! Lancers forever! - Posted by: Don Robertson (Former student ) on: Dec 12, 2023

  • Dennis was a presence during my life when I was a young and naive Fort Garry Girl! He was the good friend and team mate of my sister and brother-in-law. Murray and Carol Dickson. He wrote a touching condolence of both of them following their deaths. He was sort of my protector back then who listened to my enthusiastic recitals of student life and teased me about them. I remember one long freezing walk across the parking lot after classes one day, waxing eloquent about my experience training my rat in "rat lab"! I was bragging about how quickly my rat was learning! Dennis congratulated me, and then proposed I get a toy piano for her (the rat) and train her to play for rewards. “Then after awhile you could train her to play ‘ Sweet Georgia Brown’! I became all excited and I announced my plan to the others when we reached the car. And then I realized he was pulling my leg!! Dennis was one of a kind! The world is duller without him! - Posted by: Patti Johnson (Fellow student at Vincent Massey and carpool buddy for my first year at University of Manitoba. ) on: Dec 12, 2023

  • I am so sorry to hear of Dennis’ passing. The picture I have is a man with the beginning of a smile ready on his face. He connected with students in so many ways. His sense of humour will never be forgotten. He truly loved people and cared about his students. Love and prayers with all his family. - Posted by: Pamela Poulter Friesen (Friend and former student) on: Dec 12, 2023

  • Sending my condolences to the Nord Family. Dennis was the principal at my elementary and Jr. School. Also volleyball coach. He was a great man. He cared about all his students. He will be missed - Posted by: Shelly Spiring ( Caruso) (Student) on: Dec 07, 2023

  • I transferred to Dakota Collegiate specifically for the opportunity to play volleyball for Dennis Nord from 1980-1983. Our teams were so proud to have him as a coach. He invested so much time and energy with student athletes in practices, games and tournaments, many of which were out of town and often out of province. To fundraise for these events, our teams worked many evenings in Bison Bingo halls. Dennis inspired me to also become a teacher and a volleyball coach for hundreds of students during my own 34 year career. I will forever hold on to these positive memories of Mr. Nord. - Posted by: Patty (Jupin) Kavanagh (Student ) on: Dec 05, 2023

  • Dennis was a high school teacher and coach of mine back in 1979. He had a quiet confidence about him which drew you in to listen to his words and guidance. A wonderful man. Rest well Dennis. - Posted by: Rick Lemoine (Former student) on: Dec 04, 2023

  • Dennis was a friend of my adoptive father. Dennis played a key role in helping me come to live with that family, for which I am grateful. I will always remember Dennis for his wit, his abilities and knowledge as a coach and athlete, and his urbane knowledge of Winnipeg. So long Dennis. - Posted by: Steve Noyes (Student) on: Dec 02, 2023
