JOSEPH HENRY KAY

April 28, 1947 – November 28, 2023

Joseph Henry Kay passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home.

Born and raised at 1923 Rosser Ave, Joe grew up with his parents, brothers, and sisters, creating a foundation of love and camaraderie that would shape his life. During his teenage years, Joe developed a passion for cars, becoming a true car enthusiast. However, as he progressed through life, it became evident that his greatest treasures were his family and friends.

Joe's educational journey took him through Fleming and Park School for elementary, Earl Oxford for grades seven through eight, and Vincent Massey for grades nine through eleven.

In his early working years, Joe delivered the Winnipeg Tribune during grades seven and eight, worked at Frank's Texaco in the 60s, and later at Len's Shell Station. His career in the print shop industry began in the 70s at the Brandon School Division and Brandon University, ultimately finding a home at ACC where he dedicated 37 years of his life.

Beyond his professional commitments, Joe was a dedicated public servant, serving as a City Councillor from October 1989 to October 1998. His involvement extended to various boards, showcasing his commitment to the betterment of his community. He was also a passionate volunteer at events throughout Manitoba.

Known for his sense of humor, Joe was a jokester and prankster, bringing joy and laughter to those around him. His interests included being an avid wine maker, a skill he used to enhance the joy of entertaining both at home and the lake. The love for travelling had taken him to many beautiful places. His happiest moments were spent at Clear Lake and the cabin on Lake Dauphin, surrounded by his family and friends, the greatest sources of pride and joy in his life.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Marie Kay, and his daughters Evie Kay (Ben Pegelo), Jenni Kay (Derek Garton), and Jo-Anna Kay (Micheal Smith). He leaves behind his grandchildren, Jaidyn, Alexia, Rylan, Melia, and Sadie, grand puppies, brothers (in-laws), sisters (in-laws), nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Joe was predeceased by his father, Joseph Kay, mother, Helen Kay, father-in-law, Harry Pasklivich, mother-in-law, Ann Pasklivich, and brother-in-law, Ron Thorley.

The Celebration of Joseph’s Life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. Urn bearer will be Joe's only grandson, Rylan Pegelo.

Donations in memory of Joseph may be made to Compass Credit Union where a trust account is set up “In memory of Joe Kay”. This will be used to purchase a bench in honour of our father in the city he so loved. Donations can be accepted in the form of a cheque, cash, or e-transfer to j.kay110514@gmail.com.
