Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERBERT RAYMOND SKENE SR (BERT)
Peacefully on December 3, our Father passed away at St. Norbert Personal Care Home, at the age of 96.
Dad was born in Rainy River, on June 24, 1927 to Cecil Edwin and May Pearl Skene (nee Horricks). He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Jean, his parents, sisters Evelyn Rutley, Eleanor Hamilton, and Betty Waldack, and brother Cecil.
Dad will be lovingly remembered by his son Bert Jr, daughter Heather Dickson (Jim), grandchildren, Regan Nerbas (Clint) of Okotoks, and Tyler Dickson (Sara) of Winnipeg, and also great-grandchildren, Ruby and Drew Nerbas, Kinley and Emersyn Dickson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dad at an early age moved, with his family, from Rainy River to Dauphin, MB, where he grew up and started, what would be the beginning, of his 45 year career with the Bank of Montreal. His banking career took him to many locations all over Saskatchewan and Manitoba (12 moves in 26 years). He worked through every level of banking, with the last being the Inspection Dept., which took him from one end of Canada to the other. He retired in Winnipeg and enjoyed many years of travel, golfing, curling, and service to his church (St. Bartholomew’s Anglican), singing in the choir as well as the Winnipeg Male Chorus. After the passing of Mom, Dad moved to the Fort Garry area and attended Church of the Good Shepherd where he enjoyed being part of the congregation.
While we mourn Dad’s passing, we cherish all the love, fond memories, and wise advice he left with us.
Interment of Dad’s ashes and a Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, we suggest that you consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
