GEORGE BECKTA

September 1, 1940 -

December 7, 2023

Anxious to return to his everlasting home, George missed his evening snack at Golden Door and peacefully headed for Heaven on the evening of December 7th.

He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Antoinette Beckta and in-laws Stanley and Natalie Stepien.

Heartbroken by his unexpected death are his wife Lucy, daughters Christie DeJong and Brian Gaulke; Laurie and Denis Turpin; beloved grandchildren Rylee and Hayden DeJong; Hunter Turpin; siblings Don and Jim Beckta; Joyce and Ron Hessler and numerous extended family.

George held a variety of jobs and eventually became a plumber, ultimately owning Elmwood Plumbing and Heating.

In his retirement, George founded Cans for Cures with the help of many volunteers. Funds raised from collected aluminum cans funded a variety of children's causes including CancerCare, Rehabilitation Centre and the Burn Fund.

George joined Bump a Nose Clown Alley and was "Hugs" the clown, delighting children and adults with his playful routines.

Ever-present in all of these life experiences was a smile that could light up a room and really became the hallmark for who he was.

How blessed we were to call him husband, dad, papa, friend.

A Celebration of Life will take place late summer 2024.

Our sincere thanks to the staff of Golden Door Nursing Home who treated all of us like family; Charleswood Adult Day Centre and Minds in Motion, a division of the Alzheimer's Society that allowed George to remain active. Thanks also to many doctors and health care workers who provided care for numerous medical conditions through the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.

With Him is Plentiful Redemption (cf. Ps. 129:7)

  • Lucy & family. We all have lost that huge smile, hearty greeting and genuine warmth of personality. Whether it was at St. Al's church at worship or its many social gatherings, especially in the company of Frank and Lynda Pisa and dozens of great parish priests over the years, George was part of the glue that made the fellowship work. And that's not to mention the number of times he get me out of a plumbing or heating dilemma! I will miss him but know he is bringing his special gifts of joy and friendship to that new home he now shares with the Lord. • Lucy, you and George were a true team. It was a privilege to know George and call him friend. You were both courageous in helping him live with the vascular dementia. ..for 18 years. A kinder, gentler soul you couldn’t find. So many benefitted from his generosity and clowning. As others have commented...his smile could light up a room. And how he loved his kids and grandkids!!!! Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. - Posted by: Jocelyn Preston (Friend) on: Dec 16, 2023

  • Dear Lucy and family so sad to learn of George's passing. George and yourself such kind and generous people to St Al's Church and School! We were lucky as a community to have Elmwood Plumbing & Heating (with George at the helm) for so many years. Hard to find a more honest and fair business owner. George will be missed by so many far and wide. He is truly with the angels - rest in peace! • My condolences to you, Lucy and family. George, and his GREAT smile will always be a fond memory. I was quite young when I was introduced to George. Even at such a young age, George always treated me like a "grown up". He had a "true" persona that surrounded him. A fine "gentle man", who will be missed. xxxx - Posted by: dave humniski (Friend) on: Dec 16, 2023
