Gently and very quietly, our mom, Mary Unrau (nee Wiebe) passed away on the evening of December 18, 2023 at Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg, MB.
A viewing will take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford St, Winnipeg. Private family interment will be held prior to the service.

Auntie Mary and her family were instrumental is sponsoring me and my family to Canada in 1980. If it were not for their big hearts and generosity, we would not have had the privilege to make Winnipeg our home. For several years, Auntie Mary took care of myself, my sister and our cousin at her home daycare. She was much more than a babysitter. She taught us manners, self discipline and the importance of being respectful and kind to each other. Her life lessons shaped who we are today. Aunt Mary was our neighbour at a time when neighbours were an extension of our own families. We were so fortunate to have Aunty Mary care for for our 2 boys when they were young, and the amazing recipes she shared with us then in her cookbook that have become our family favorites.
