HELEN DOROTHEA (DOROTHY) DOBBIE

(nee ELKE)

June 9, 1937- December 26, 2023

With much love and deep sadness our family shares the news of the death of Dorothy in the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the age of 86.

She is survived by her husband Wayne, daughter Karen Beaulieu (Joel), Lorena Elke (daughter), Bonnie Dobbie (daughter), Wayne Dobbie Jr. (son), David Elke (brother), grandchildren David, Lisa, Colton, and Lochlan, and great-grandchildren Emily, Dylan, Brooke, Lydia, and Talia. Dorothy was predeceased by parents William and Freida and siblings Ilene, Ron, and Don, and father in-law Douglas and mother in-law Jean Dobbie.

Dorothy was born in a log cabin in Waldersee Manitoba. From the time she was a young girl she loved to read. She spoke about her favorite book being “Little Women” and reading it for the first time in her late auntie’s milkhouse. She was also a speed reader and passed on her love of reading to her children.

Family was especially important to Dorothy. She often would be seen at family gatherings playing guitar and singing for everyone. She was a wonderful self-taught musician and singing was a gift she shared everywhere she went.

Dorothy loved to curl and watch sports, especially curling. She loved the great outdoors and spending time at the cabin in the summer. She also loved to garden, and her love of cooking, canning, and baking were another gift she offered not only to family, but also to local community events and bonspiels.

She also had many friends, as it seems no matter where she was, people gravitated towards her good spirit, kindness and laughter. She loved her circle of friends.

Dorothy had an infectious smile, enthusiastic sense of humor, beautiful nails and always demanded a “quaffed” hairdo. She extended herself to others and will be missed by many people.

It is our hope that she will rest easy in unencumbered beauty among those who have predeceased her, especially her dear mother Freida and her father William whom she missed ever so much.

The family would especially like to thank all the staff and personnel at Fairview Nursing Home, Brandon, Manitoba, for taking such diligent care of Dorothy, our mom, Wayne’s wife, for these past years. We know she was very loved.

The family will cherish Dorothy’s memory privately.

Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to a charity of your choice.
