LAUREEN MARY BEACOM
Laureen Mary Beacom (Finn) died peacefully with her family by her side on December 22, 2023. Laureen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 20, 1931 to Irish immigrant parents, John and Annie Finn.
Laureen grew up in Winnipeg’s west end and graduated from Daniel McIntyre High School. Summers were spent at the family cabin at Grand Beach, a tradition that continued through Laureen’s youth and early adulthood. She spent countless summer nights at the Grand Beach dance hall creating cherished memories that she returned to often.
Laureen’s first job was working part-time at Eaton’s while still in high school. After graduation she worked at the post office as a typist and then private secretary. She met Chester Beacom, the love of her life, in 1949. They were married in 1952 and were rarely apart for the next 70 years. Laureen was a devoted wife and dutiful mother, raising two children - Shane and Sharon. She was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Laureen’s love of animals, and of her cherished poodles in particular, is a value that she carried to her final moments and a legacy that her family will honour in their dedicated care of their four-legged companions.
Laureen is predeceased by her husband Chester and her four beloved poodles, Fifi, Clancy, Daisy and Bailey. She is survived by her two children - Shane (Dorothy) and Sharon (Bill) - four grandchildren - Colleen, Kevan, Christine, and Kelsey - and three great-grandchildren - Max, Amelia and Henry.
Laureen’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Middlechurch Personal Care Home for the exceptional care she received since she became a resident in 2016.
A private cremation service has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be appreciated.
