SHARON GAYLE THORVALDSON
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on December 24th, 2023, at Selkirk Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is now reunited with her loving husband of 50 years, Lorne, who she missed so very much. She is survived by her son, Kevin (Lori and her daughter, Alycia), daughter, Dayna, granddaughter, Taylor, great-grandchildren, Libby and Thor, and special grandchildren, Ronald, Neveah, Harley, Haven, and Elroy. She also leaves her brothers Jim (Linda), Glen (Edie), Gary, Alvin, David (Jodie), and sisters Coriene (Gary), Donna (Robèrt), brother-in-law Norman (Pat) and best friend Marilyn. She was predeceased by her brother Randy.
Sharon married Lorne on February 28th, 1970, and raised their family in Selkirk. Sharon was deeply loved and cared for by her “Honey Do”. Sharon and Lorne enjoyed their casino golf trips with Ron and Bea, and Buffalo Point trips with the Monkman gang. Her most loved place on earth was the beach in Mazatlán, Mexico with Lorne and the original six.
She worked at Electroknit and at Selkirk Linen Services, retiring in April 2005. In her retirement years, Sharon dedicated her time volunteering at the Selkirk Soup Kitchen and the thrift store. Sharon had a love of flowers and was proud to share her beautiful flower gardens with family and friends. Sharon and Lorne enjoyed long car rides, listening to their favourite tunes, volunteering and socializing at the Legion. Sharon was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother and cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Selkirk Regional Health Centre who worked compassionately and patiently with Sharon.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, MB, with lunch to follow. The service will be live streamed on Gilbart's website for those wishing to view. The family invites everyone to join us for drinks and the sharing of memories at Selkirk Legion immediately following lunch.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
