It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gianni Siro Favaro on December 20, 2023. He passed at Oakview Personal Care Home, at the age of 92, with loved ones by his side.

Gianni will be lovingly remembered by his son Roger (Karen), and his grandchildren, Gianni Michael and Taylor; brother Gian-Carlo (Rosalia); sister Francesca and sister-in-law Bruna; along with his nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Gertrude; father and mother, Guiseppe and Rosa; brothers, Francisco, Remigio (Clara), Feidenzio and Alfredo and later in life companion Pauline Ratz; father Don Antonio; sisters Suor and Prioseffa; father and mother-in-law Azarie and Marie Encontre; brothers-in-law, Patricio, Jean Baptiste, Bart, Marcel, Frank (Gertie), Martial, Joseph, Cyp (Evelyn); sisters-in-law Bertha, Augustine, Blondine (Carlo), Jeanette, Genevieve (Medard); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gianni was born in Via Caltana, Santa Maria di Sala, Venice, Italy. Gianni was an intelligent man who understood people and was willing to help family and friends. He was a man who was honest, loyal, and well-respected. He came from a large family, grew up during the Second World War and knew the value of hard work. He had a successful business as a shoemaker in Italy but came across a poster showing the majestic evergreens of Canada and decided to go on an adventure.

With courage and determination, he learned a new language, became a skilled bricklayer and found the love of his life Gertrude. They were married for many years, and after her passing he found a loving partner in Pauline.

Dad was a devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Gianni enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and bowling with family and friends. He was an avid gardener and took pride in his tomatoes, climbing beans and winemaking. Gianni was a fan of the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers and loved watching games with his nephew Victor. He loved his grandchildren dearly and enjoyed attending all of their activities.

He enjoyed his many visits to Italy to visit his beloved family with one very special trip with his grandchildren.
