Joan Audrey Anderson (nee Hamm), age 89, of the Dinsdale Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba, passed peacefully surrounded by her dear nursing friends on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
She is proceeded in death by her parents: Anne Marchant (Earle), Bernhard Hamm, and Lawrence Marchant. She will be fondly remembered by her children: Kathryn (David) Barber of Eagan, MN; Michael Anderson of Carver, MN; Barbara (Benjamin) LaPlante of Fergus Falls, MN; and Christine (Darin) Josephsen of West Fargo, ND; her beloved grandchildren: William and Steven Barber, Jack and Ava Josephsen, and Haylen LaPlante; her sister Lois Mullen; her brother Gerald (Irene) Hamm, and her niece, nephews, and friends.
In 1956, after graduating from nursing school in Winnipeg, Joan worked at children’s hospitals in Winnipeg, MB, Oakland, CA, and St. Paul, MN, where she met her husband, continued her nursing career, and started a family in Marshall, MN. She eventually returned to Canada, moved to Brandon, MB, and worked for many years in the Brandon General Hospital ICU (1980 - 1995).
Joan actively embraced life and loved being outdoors; gardening, walking with her walking poles, golfing, spending time with family at the cabin on Bird Lake, and conversing with anyone and everyone she met. She adored her Pomeranian dogs. When weather forced her indoors, she loved to bowl, knit, read, gamble, and watch sports (curling, football, baseball). She enjoyed cheering for her Toronto Blue Jays and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Through all her years, she remained a proud Canadian.
The Celebration of Joan’s Life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon, MB, on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will take place one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Joan's name to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6 or www.brandonhumanesociety.ca
