JULIA DEWAR

The family of Julia (Judy) are sad to announce her sudden but peaceful passing on December 12, 2023 at the age of 97. She is now reunited with her loving husband of 58 years, Dunny. She is survived by her daughter Heather (Wayne) and son Larry; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Julia was born one of eight children on the family farm in Solsgirth, Manitoba on September 8, 1926 to parents, William and Susan Stanchuk. As a young girl she came to Winnipeg and became a hairdresser. Her first job was at Eaton's beauty salon. Mom continued to hairdress in her home well into her 80s for friends and family.

Julia met Dunny at the Grand Beach dancehall. Dunny often lovingly joked she tripped him in order to meet him. It obviously worked! They settled into their forever home in Garden City where they raised their family. Mom loved to entertain at home. Larry and I remember many parties they hosted on Richardson Avenue. Even on her 97th birthday we had a small family gathering and she remarked, ”I do love a party!”

Mom was a devoted member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, belonging to the CWL for over 50 plus years.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Residence for the wonderful care and compassion they showed our mom.

Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held in the spring. We will pick a nice sunny blue-sky day which she always loved.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • So sad to hear of Mrs. Dewar's passing. But there is comfort knowing she will be with Mr. Dewar now. What a team they were. The nicest people you could ever meet. Always welcome in their home, with a big smile and "well Stevie sit down I've got something for you and Larry to eat before you go out and no saying no" haha. Come in and watch the Bombers for a bit and Mr. Dewar's famous line "well Stevie would you like another scotch" Yep for sure. Whenever Larry and I were on our way out I would get pulled aside and she would tell me "take care of my Larry for me" A request I still attempt to honor. Larry and Heather I feel blessed to have had your parents in my life. Stevie - Posted by: Steve Meyer (Friend) on: Jan 09, 2024
