Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY IRENE MCLEOD
Peacefully and with grace, we announce the passing of Dorothy Irene McLeod on December 26, 2023. Dorothy was predeceased by husband Bill (2005), parents Goldie and Iola, and siblings Eunice, Gwen, Myrtle, Melvin, Bill and Harvey.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by her two daughters Karen (Frank) and Diane (Ken), her eight grandchildren and their partners: Reid (Morgan), Darcie (Daniel), Justin (Taylor), Aaron (Rachael), Brent (Nicole), Braeden (Shay), Joel (Shelby) and Myles (Jodi), and eight great-grandchildren: Talon, Emery, Arian, Avery, Liv, Justice, Vendetta and Ryder. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie, brother Larry, sister-in-law Ivy, nieces, nephews and friends made throughout the years.
Dorothy was born in Turtle Mountain, Manitoba and raised in the Killarney, Manitoba area, moving to Winnipeg following her marriage to Bill on August 27, 1955. Dorothy and Bill spent almost 50 years together attending Saturday night dances, weekend baseball tournaments or highland piping competitions. They both loved to travel and took trips to: Japan, China, Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. There were also many camping trips with both Karen and Diane that covered many parts of Canada and the United States.
As an avid learner, Dorothy was proud of the fact that she had been advanced a year in school. In later years, she went back to school to become a hair stylist and enjoyed that trade for many years. Once retired, you could find her studying maps and doing cross-words. You could ask her to name the capital city of any province or state and she could name them without hesitation.
Dorothy was also active in sports: hockey, baseball, bowling, clogging and golfing. She even tried roller skating well into her seventies. She was active at Westworth United Church and on various committees with the Shriners. Dorothy would never turn down an invitation to grab a Tim Hortons coffee or a McDonalds snack wrap. They were her favorites.
Once the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, time was spent attending sporting events, building blanket forts, completing craft projects and making sure that she was in the front row for every Christmas concert. Cookies were always available at Grandma’s house.
It really is challenging to capture the essence of who someone is or was, but from her family’s perspective she was always: meticulously dressed (including hair, make up and jewelry), smiling, a good listener and willing to drop anything and everything if her family needed something, especially if it involved her grandchildren.
Dorothy’s family and friends should never doubt how much they were loved… And she was loved right back. Rest peacefully Mom.
The family would like to thank Riverview Health Centre, Unit D4 staff for the care and compassion provided to Dorothy and her family. In lieu of flowers, please feel welcome to make a donation to the Alzheimer Society Manitoba.
A private family gathering honoring Dorothy, will take place at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home and Cemetery in the near future.

Dorothy was the best sister a brother could ask for and the best sister-in-law. Dorothy's door was always open for a visit, and a nice cup of tea and a cookie. Dorothy you will be missed. - Posted by: Ivy Harrison (sister in law) on: Jan 07, 2024
