Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL HERBERT BROMLEY
Paul Herbert Bromley passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on January 4, 2024, just shy of his 90th birthday.
He will be missed and forever cherished by his loving wife of 64 years, Doreen, his seven children; Chris, Kate, Kevin, Megan Provencher (Rob), Tim (Darlene), Sara Hogarth (James) and Matthew (Alica), 21 wonderful grandchildren, three delightful great-grandchildren, sister Judy Walker (Keith), brother Jim (Katie), sister-in-law Louise, the Chalmers' family, three generations of nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends and neighbors.
Paul was the oldest and first born son of Marjorie and Bert. His family settled into a family home close to St.Ignatius Church. His mother was active in the church community and sang in the choir. Paul served as an alter boy and went to St. Ignatius School. He was very involved in the parish community for over 60 years, serving on the board, the Refugee committee, The Pope's visit to Winnipeg, and the Centennial Celebrations of the Church.
Paul attended St. Paul's High School, where he excelled in academics and debating clubs, enjoyed performing in theatre and skits, and basketball. He was class Valedictorian at St. Paul's College, and went on to graduate from the Faculty of Law at University of Manitoba in 1959. It was at Grad's farewell that he met Doreen, a teacher of art at Silver Heights School. They dated for six months before Doreen went to teach at the Canadian Air Force base in Germany. Two months later Paul arrived in Germany to propose and they married on December 23. They bought a used Volkswagon and enjoyed the opportunity to travel in Europe with friends and colleagues before returning home to start their new life.
Paul articled with Gordon Munsch and became a partner at the law firm of "Pollock, Nurgitz, Skwark, Bromley and Myers". He was a respected member of the Manitoba legal profession. A special highlight was being involved in the transaction that signed Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson to the Winnipeg Jets In semi-retirement, he worked closer to home, at Van Walleghem and Associates on Grant Avenue.
We have many fond memories of family dinners and celebrations with friends at home on Yale Avenue, at the Chalmers' farm, and at the cabin at Twin Beaches on Lake Manitoba. There were epic road trips, up to 13 in the van, with Grandma Bromley, and brother Kev's friend Paul, to the Canadian Rockies, California, Mexico, Marco Island Florida, and to visit Grandpa Chalmers in Arizona.
Paul was a patient and loving father and devoted husband. He was kind, compassionate and humble. Our lives have been enriched by his humour, wisdom and faith. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Church on Wednesday, January 10, 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow. A livestream of the Funeral Mass will be available on the church website at www.st.ignatius.ca.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brian Sharkey, The WRHA, and the wonderful staff at Blossoms Senior Care, and HomeInstead.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rossbrook House or House of Peace.
Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.

I am truly saddened by the loss of Mr. Bromley (he always wanted me to call him Paul but it seemed irreverent). I knew him as a parishioner at St. Ignatius and got to know him more during our time together on the Centennial Celebration Committee for the church. He was such a lovely, smart, soft spoken, caring man. I loved working with him and learned many lessons; listening intently, respect, empathy, and discernment to name a few. I like to think that I have incorporated these into all my endeavors since. He will be missed and remembered fondly! Judy and family, my sincere condolences of the passing of your dear brother Paul. I remember him from our years in Fort Rouge, St. Ignatius school and later as we all grew up, he was such a lovely kind family man and will be missed by you all. Unfortunately I am leaving on Wednesday for the winter so will not be able to attend his funeral/Celebration of Life. Peace of Christ be with you all. - Posted by: Susan Allery Heim (Friend) on: Jan 09, 2024
