It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charlie, our beloved father and grandfather.
He leaves to mourn daughter Janine; son-in-law Ron; grandchildren, Alex and Riley; son Glen; daughter-in-law Michele; sister Mona; nieces and nephews, Dallas, Lynne, Daryl, Karen, Lori, Kyle, Dennis, Amy, Janice, Garth, Irma, Don, Donna, Bruce, Joy, Keith, Herb, Edna and Larry.
He was predeceased by wife Kathleen, parents, Oscar and Myrtle, brother-in-law Millen, sisters-in-law, Mildred and Florence; brothers-in-law, Cecil, Earl and Geordie; niece Muriel and nephew Lindsay.
Charlie was born in Neepawa and was raised in the Brookdale area. He farmed with his father and later, after marrying Kathleen, purchased their first parcel of land east of Brookdale. Over the years they adjusted their farming practices to produce grains, oilseeds, and cattle.
Dad played hockey and was active in 4-H. He served on various boards throughout the years. In 1979 he joined the board of directors of Manitoba Pool Elevators. He was elected to the position of vice president and in 1990 became president, a position he held through the merger that formed the larger Agricore. Farming provided many opportunities for Dad and his interest in agriculture never waned.
During retirement, he joined the Rotary Club and worked with NACTV. Summertime meant his grandchildren, Alex and Riley would be staying for a week or two taking swimming lessons in Neepawa.
One of his favourite things to do was to get into his car and drive. Many miles were spent with family members conducting tours of the crops, parks and lakes of Manitoba.
Funeral services will be held in the Brookdale Hall on February 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
Donations to Doctors Without Borders in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated.
