MARIA INCORONATA COLATRUGLIO

April 26, 1935 – January 11, 2024

On January 11, 2024 at the age of 88, our most treasured and beloved mother left us to join our father Giovanni in heaven.

She will be deeply missed by her children Mike, Rita, and Filomena (Rick) along with their children who adored their Nonnina so very much; Amandalina (Tom), Johnny (Cesar), Daniella (Brenden), Marc (Taylar), Marleen (Adam), Sara (Filip), Kristina (Kevin), and our Juliana. Mom’s ultimate gift and joy were her great-grandchildren, who brought her so much happiness and we created such amazing memories.

Born on April 26, 1935 in San Bartolomeo in Galdo, Italy, Mom was first born to a loving family who were hard-working farmers. At the age of 20 Mom married our dad by proxy, and in January 1957 she boarded a ship aimed for Canada. Dad met his bride in Halifax, and as she joked many times that the long train ride was their honeymoon. Shortly after arriving in Winnipeg, Mom began working in a sewing factory. Mom and Dad both were hard-working immigrants and focused on creating a strong foundation for their family. Mom defined resilience, she had a strong faith and was so kind to everyone she met. In her final days her words focused on faith, love and family. We will continue to honour you with all that you have taught us and continue to instill the same values and a strong foundation with our own families.

Mom, you were so strong and you worked so hard, and now it is your time to rest and reunite with the love of your life.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg, MB, with condolences at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Father Sam Argenziano presiding.

  • Mike, Rita, Filomena. It is so hard to express into words the heartfelt sadness of the loss of a loved one, as much as your mother. All the fun times we shared together at the beaches and house visiting, will always be a big part of our growing up and friendship. And although families grow and friends pull apart, the memories will never be forgotten. A short column of the her living memories, does not justify the warmth and happiness, she shared of herself, with her family and friends. Truly a wonderful and caring person to all who was fortunate to meet and get to know her. My mother will also miss the phone calls, she had with her. - Posted by: Lou & Diane Felicioni (long time friends) on: Jan 21, 2024

  • Zia Maria was like my second Mom. From 1976 that we went to WPG to visit and several occasions till now it was always a festive occasion for both our families. Zia would prepare lasagna at 5am to bring to the beach. Then came the weddings and all the dancing on the dance floor with Zio…the love of her life❤️❤️. I am especially happy to have spent time with her last October for Sara & Fil’s Wedding. Our hearts are with all my cousins & little cousins over this difficult time. Rita, Mike, and Filomena ….our deepest Condolences to you and all your families. We know that Zio has his Maria in his arms for eternity and will continue to dance and have great times together. May she Rest In Peace. With all our love, Cugini Amy & Maurice Cont - Posted by: Amalia & Maurizio Conti (Cousins) on: Jan 20, 2024
