Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTONIO DI SANTO
Antonio Di Santo, born January 31, 1932, passed away peacefully on the evening of January 11, 2024.
He will be remembered lovingly by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his wife Antonietta, and his parents, Angelina and Domenico. Antonio is survived by his daughter Angelina (Kumar S. Sharma) and his son Domenico in Winnipeg.
Dad was born in the small village of Sambuceto located near the town of Bomba in Abruzzo, Italy, and was the youngest of his family. He immigrated to Winnipeg in November 1963 and Antonietta and her young family followed two years later.
Antonio and Antonietta enjoyed travelling. They spent many winters in Mazatlán, Mexico, with their friends. The family made many trips back to Sambuceto and visited family and friends. Their family is well known and respected in their hometown to this day. Through out his life, Antonio loved all the activities associated with a traditional, rural Italian life: hunting, fishing, gardening, etc. In Abruzzo, his family sustained themselves by farming. He also worked on the dam on the Sangro River near Bomba, just before immigrating to Canada. On coming to Canada, he worked for many years at CN Railways as a car man. He made many lifelong good friends and contacts while there.
Antonio led a strong and vigorous life until he contracted a rapidly developing cancer and deteriorated over the past two months. During this period, he was able to speak to almost all of extended family and friends. He expressed his gratitude to them for their presence in his life. It was clear that he felt blessed by the rich life that he had led.
Funeral services will be held at the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, presided over by Fr. Jerry Ward. Condolences (at 10:00 a.m.) and a Mass of Christian Burial (at 11:00 a.m.), Tuesday January 16. A reception will follow immediately after. Interment will follow the reception at the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley Street.

I would see Tony walking around the neighborhood for years and I finally got a chance to chat with him in the summer of 2023. Strong and vigorous sums him up perfectly, I'll also add that he always had a smile on his face. The neighborhood will miss him. My sincere condolences to the family. - Posted by: Bill (Neighbor) on: Jan 14, 2024
