ROBERT LAWRENCE SANDBERG

December 6, 1927 - January 15, 2024

Winnipeg, January 15, 2024 - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert (Bob) Lawrence Sandberg, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle at the age of 96.

His legacy is one of enduring love, strength, and a lifetime filled with cherished memories. Born on December 6, 1927, Bob was a proud alumnus of the University of Manitoba, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. His professional journey led him to Manitoba Hydro, where he dedicated his career to contributing his skills and expertise.

Bob was an extraordinary carpenter. His craftsmanship was a testament to his passion for creating beauty with his hands.

In a marriage that spanned an incredible 70 years, Bob and Diane shared a love that withstood the test of time. Together, they raised a loving family of five children: Danny, Judy, Gale, Karen and Carol. Bob was predeceased by his daughter Gale in 2020. The bonds they created extended to grandchildren, Kris, Jesse, Nick (Gale and Larry), Jasmine (Judy), and Sean (Karen), who were a source of immense joy and pride for Bob.

Summers were a time of joy for the entire family, as Bob, along with his wife, Diane and children, spent idyllic days at Winnipeg Beach. The beach became a haven not only for the immediate family but also for relatives and friends who gathered to create lasting memories.

Upon retirement, Bob and Diane embarked on new adventures, traveling together to many destinations and enjoying winters in the warmth of Pharr, Texas. These years of shared experiences added a new chapter to their remarkable journey.

An active member of the community, Bob found joy in the camaraderie of curling and golf and his joy of watching the Blue Bombers. His competitive spirit, combined with a love for these sports, made him a respected and beloved figure on the fields and rinks.

Bob reveled in playing cards and cribbage, activities that brought together family and friends for hours of laughter and friendly competition. His presence during the holiday season was a cherished tradition, and he was affectionately known as “Five Golden Rings" at Christmas.

A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to charity of choice in memory of Robert Lawrence Sandberg.

May his soul find eternal peace, and may the memories of his love, laughter, and remarkable journey bring comfort to all those who mourn his passing.
