Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLULU INGIBJORG REBIZANT
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, our family would like to announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Lulu Ingibjorg Rebizant, on January 6, 2024, after a brief battle with Covid at Betel Home in Gimli. With family by her side, Mom joined her loving husband, Joseph and will be sadly missed by her sons, Ken (Marlene), Terry (Susan) and Chris (Sue); her grandchildren, Jessica (Chris), Michael, and Joseph (Nicole); Jane, Thordur, and Hanna; and Hunter; and by sister Anna Forgey (Don), twin sister Diane Gard (Charlie), brother-in-law Russell Rebizant (Lorraine); as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mom was predeceased by her husband Joseph; parents, Oddur and Gudny; brothers, Herman (Mabel), Thordur (Noreen), Mike (Doreen); and sisters, Agnes (Bill) and Bjorg (Arvid).
Mom was born on June 17, 1937, on the family sheep and dairy farm known as Husavik, near Sandy Hook, Manitoba. She was the last of eight children born, arriving seven minutes after her twin sister, Diane. Mom always admitted with a smirk that she and Diane were spoiled growing up, not having to do many of the farm chores assigned to her older siblings. Mom worked at Eaton's before attending Normal School to become a permit teacher. There, she met our dad and they taught at neighbouring one room schools, Mom at Broad Valley and Dad at Kilkenny, with twin sister Diane not far away at Ring Rose.
Mom and Dad were married on June 29, 1957, in Winnipeg Beach. Mom, who was never late, was an hour late for her wedding because the farm truck would not start! Dad was patient, and thank God he waited, thus beginning their 60 year marriage. Despite having three young sons, Mom went back to school at Red River Community College to become a licensed practical nurse. She practiced at Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital, a career she thoroughly enjoyed for more than 25 years, retiring in 1993. Over the years, many of Mom's former patients have told us how dedicated and compassionate she was as a nurse.
Mom enjoyed being a part of the Teulon-Komarno-Malonton community, the outdoors, knitting and crocheting, curling in her younger years, golfing in her later years, camping, travelling to the Caribbean, and wintering in Texas with Dad. Mom was proud of her Icelandic heritage. She attended Islendingadagurinn every year (which conflicted with the Dauphin Ukrainian Festival, so Dad never got to go) and like all Icelandic mothers, she baked the best vinarterta. Mom's love for her family is never ending - in our eyes, she was the greatest wife, mother and grandmother. We are thankful that Mom's legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren.
In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family service will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank the good people of the Interlake for making Mom's life so enjoyable; and to Betel Home and those staff who treated her with kindness and dignity.
In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Mom's caring nature, we would like to encourage all to keep their Covid vaccinations up to date.
Truly a blessed life! Godda nott, elskan

To the Rebizant family. We were sorry to hear of Lu's passing. My mother (Helga Inman nee Guttormson) was a first cousin to Lu and her siblings. Her parents were Einar and Freda Guttormson from north of Libau Mb. I remember my mother sending Christmas cards to Bjorg and Arvid. My husband, Derryl, and I live in Stonewall and he taught at Warren Collegiate, so he knew Joe through their work. I remember meeting Lu and Joe at various School Div. events and also a few family reunions and anniversaries. My brother, Einar, and his wife, Claudette moved to the Teulon area and became good friends and golfing partners with Lu and Joe. Please share our condolences with all your family. Sincerely, Linda Hall - Posted by: Linda and Derryl Hall (Cousin) on: Jan 22, 2024
