It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Paul H. Toews after a brief illness at St. Boniface Hospital on January 17, 2024.
He will be lovingly remembered by his aunts Edith A. Toews and Dr. Helen A. Toews and his friends, Lily Lim and Madeline Lim.
He was predeceased by his parents Henry H. Toews and Freda (nee Franke) Toews; his aunts, Elfriede Peters (nee Toews) and Ida Toews; and his aunt and uncle Abe Dyck and Ella (nee Franke) Dyck.
Paul was born in Winnipeg on April 15, 1947. He received his early education at John Pritchard School and then attended the University of Manitoba, obtaining a Fine Arts degree in 1969. After graduation he worked with several companies doing commercial art.
Due to health problems, Paul retired early, and then could devote himself to his favourite pastimes, painting and piano. He exhibited paintings at various locations including the Winnipeg Public Library, Centennial Concert Hall for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and his home studio. He was a member of The Manitoba Society of Artists.
Paul was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he played piano and organ until it closed. He then transferred to the Luther Home and played there until Covid-related interruptions.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg, with viewing prior to the service. Paul will be cremated and interred on his father’s grave in Elmwood Cemetery at a later date.

Paul was a fellow organist with my mother, Mary Deibert at Christ Lutheran. He was popular with the young people at the church. They referred to him as "Elton John". David & I have 3 of Paul's Painting in our home. Lily & Madeline may the peace of the Lord be with you. - Posted by: Kathy & David Murdoch (Friends) on: Jan 25, 2024

Dear Lily and Madeline So sorry to hear your friend Paul has passed. We have great memories of Paul and your friendship with him. The music and your painting. We are in Costa Rica and regret we cannot see you at funeral. Into Paradise may the angel lead him. At his coming may the martyrs receive into the Holy City Jerusalem. May a choir of angels welcome. And where Lazarus is poor no more may he have everlasting life. Pastor Don and Donna - Posted by: Don Engel (Friend) on: Jan 25, 2024
