EVELYN RUTH HAMILTON
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Evelyn Ruth Hamilton, in Winnipeg, on January 17, 2024. Evelyn had most recently celebrated her 90th birthday with her extended family and dearest friends at her residence at Brightwater Senior Living.
Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her children, Bob (Nancy), Erla (Marty), and Scott (Kari), and her eight grandchildren, Liz (Colin), Maggie (Joe), Matthew, Alex (Kristin), Kathryn (Dan), Erin (Malcolm), Rachel, and Daniel. She was also the proud great-grandmother to Caitlin, Olivia, and Logan. Evelyn will be dearly missed by her sister Olive, with whom she spoke daily by phone, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Ian, and her daughter Gail, as well has her brother Melvin.
Evelyn was born in 1933 in Clanwilliam, Manitoba. She grew up on a farm with a large extended family in a tight-knit Scandinavian community. At teachers college in Winnipeg, she met and later married the love of her life, Ian, and together they raised their family in Transcona where they both taught elementary school.
Evelyn loved sports and all things arts and crafts. She was a talented artist who loved to paint, quilt, sew, and decorate cakes. She was also a terrific athlete, enjoying playing softball, golf, and curling, and watching her beloved Jets and Bombers on TV. Evelyn was always busy and active, and had a wide group of friends. She will be sadly missed by all.
Evelyn’s family is planning a private interment at Green Acres Cemetery.

I met Evelyn and Ian Hamilton at the Winnipeg Tuxedo Lawn Bowling Club. Both wonderful people and excellent Lawn Bowlers. Both represented Manitoba at the Canadian on the Manitoba team. 911, the Twin Towers were devastated. Our ladies and men’s bowling were on our way to a competition in Windsor, Ontario thru Hamilton. The crisis closed the Airport and we were lucky get a SUV to complete our journey. Evelyn and her team were a joy to be with. I will always remember the good times had with Evelyn And Ian Hamilton. - Posted by: William Bundy (Lawn Bowling friend) on: Feb 12, 2024

Mrs. Hamilton was the best teacher ever. I remember her being very warm, kind, and patient. She encouraged our creativity. One of my fondest school memories is of her allowing us to use class time to write, rehearse, and perform our own plays. Thank you for believing in us, Mrs. Hamilton! - Posted by: Ginny Porter (Former Student) on: Jan 27, 2024
