DONA BURRON

March 1, 1945 - January 23, 2024

Peacefully on the morning of January 23, 2024, with her two loving sons by her side, Dona Burron (nee McGee) was brought to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, and reunited with her husband Kenneth and beloved daughter Jillian Anne.

In addition to Ken and Jillian, Dona was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Wanda McGee; her brothers-in-law, Dr. Doug Burron and Dr. Bryan Burron; and her sisters-in-law, Kay Burron (Arni) and Sonia Burron (Doug). She is survived by her son Kevin Burron and wife Jennifer, and granddaughters, Jillian, Brooke, Jordan and Lauren, of Calgary; son Dr. Ian Burron and wife April Harrison and granddaughters, Monica and Carmen of Winnipeg; her brother Tom McGee and wife Naida, of Anchorage, Alaska; her brother John McGee of Victoria; her brother Patrick McGee and wife Kathy, of Mississauga; her brother George McGee of Winnipeg; her sister Jean Pachkowski and husband Perry of Regina; and brother-in-law Dr. Arni Burron of Greeley, Colorado. As well, Dona will be missed by many nieces and nephews, extended family and close friends.

Born in Winnipeg, Dona studied education at the University of Manitoba, and obtained her Master’s degree in early childhood education at the University of Northern Colorado. She taught kindergarten and early years in Winnipeg, eventually retiring as a consultant in the River East School Division. She had a passion for educating children, even composing original songs and creating other teaching aids to make learning a fun experience for kids.

She cherished her six granddaughters especially, but always thought of the children of friends and family as well, somehow keeping a catalogue of birthdays and other special occasions in her head.

Dona was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 50 years, participating in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and later serving on the church board. While we will dearly miss Dona in this life, we look forward to a joyful reunion with her in the life of the world to come.

The family would like to send special thanks to all of the nurses and staff at the Brummitt-Feasby ALS House who took such wonderful care of Mum, as well as her “partner in crime” John, who we know looked out for her and with whom she loved sharing laughs. We could not have asked for a better place for her to be, and she truly loved everyone there.

We ask that anyone wishing to make a memorial gift please donate to the Brummitt-Feasby ALS House through the ALS Society of Manitoba.

A funeral service for Dona will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2528 King Edward Street, Winnipeg at 2:00 p.m. on February 5, 2024. Glen Eden Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I grew up with buddies Tom & John and remember their older sister Dona well. She was nice to me as a little kid, and very patient with her brothers who were profoundly rambunctious. The McGee family was like my second family & I think of them often now. I remember us all laughing together all the time. I send my love and condolences to all, and I will remember Dona always.
