Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONARD (LEN) JOSEPH DALMAN
Leonard Joseph Dalman born February 17, 1951 – passed October 30, 2023. After a long struggle with dementia. He passed away, with his wife at his side.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and various health care professionals, who made his last days as comfortable as possible.
Len often missed activities that occurred in the evenings or on weekends because he was working. He would laugh and say, "I'm not missing the entertainment, I am the entertainment."
He was the one person audio department at the Manitoba Centennial Concert Hall (MCCH) for 32 years, the sound man at the Manitoba Theatre Centre (MTC) for five years. He was at Neptune Theatre in Halifax for one and a half years. As a musician himself, he prided himself in getting the sound just right, making sure sound and vocals were in proper balance.
After his training at the Theatre Arts program in Confederation College, he continued taking courses through-out the years, to keep up with the latest in technological improvements. Sound just wasn't his vocation, it was his passion.
Len was a caring man who generously gave his time, his energy and his financial assistance to whomever was in need. Len was quiet about his opinions, preferring that his actions show who he was.
He was an active volunteer with his union IATSE local 63, on the board of the local chapter of the TSFC and the Elmwood NDP.
His favourite role was that of AFI (Grandfather). He would walk his grandchildren to school every day and would come to get them after school and walk them home. He loved planning activities for them from simple walks to one of the local parks, to road trips to explore Manitoba and visit the many communities around Winnipeg.
As a proud member of the Icelandic community, he loved going to the Islandingadagurinn (Icelandic Heritage Festival). Going to Gimli occurred as often as we could, usually including a visit to his cousin Jo-Anne and Bill Morris's cabin, where they hosted many a BBQ supper for us.
He was a prankster of note and when you saw that sparkle in his eyes, you knew that there was some mischief about to occur.
Len was predeceased by his parents, Herman (1992) and Anna (Skaptason) 1985. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Thomas; their son David and his partner Yvette and their three children, Alexandra, Darian and Victoria. He is also survived by his sisters, Carol (Randy) and Diane (Bill); his sisters-in-law, Susan (Moe) and Sharon and his aunt Jo Wilson, who has continued to be a strong support through-out his life; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Len's Celebration of Life will occur on Saturday, February 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue.
