JOHN JOHNSON
Peacefully, with his family by his side, John passed away February 7, 2024. John is survived by his wife of 25 years Jacqueline, daughter Lani (Theo), son Lonnie (Holly) and stepchildren Morgan Zacharias and Sean Thiessen; grandchildren Skylar, Austin, Tyler, Natalia, Trenton, and Natasha and great-grandchildren Aubrielle, Axtyn and Violet; brother-in-law Donald Caldwell and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife Lillian (Caldwell), mother Lillian, father Elof and stepfather Ernest.
John was raised in Chatfield, Manitoba, with his three brothers Ron (Carol), Wayne (Colleen) and Lloyd (Elaine). Three sisters Mary (Doug), Carol (Wayne) and Betty.
Growing up on the family farm is where he acquired his great passion for raising cattle. He started part time cattle while working at Canada Packers for 19 years, and then finally went full time raising cattle where he built a reputation for quality cattle. Even while fighting his illness he was still out farming for as long as he was able, it was so much a part of him. He also drove a school bus for 13 years, which he enjoyed. John was like a kid magnet, there wasn’t a kid that didn’t like him. It wasn’t only children but anyone who met him. He always had a smile on his face, even when he wasn’t smiling he still looked like he was smiling. John made many, many friends throughout his life that are still friends now. He was a very social person and loved nothing better than to have people come for a visit and sit around the kitchen table talking and laughing. He will be fondly remembered by all those that knew him. John’s loved ones will be lost without him.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. The service will be livestreamed, and there will be a link available on his obituary at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
