RIFTYN AYDEN HUGHES

November 24, 2022 – January 25, 2024

JACOB TRISTAN HUGHES

 July 18, 1994 – January 25, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we share our family tragedy. On January 25, 2024, Riftyn Hughes and his dad, Jacob Hughes, left this world together on their eternal journey. Knowing that his daddy was there to carry him to the everlasting hereafter is the only comfort in our devastating loss.

Left to cherish their memories are mother to Riftyn and partner to Jacob, Leann; sister to Riftyn and stepdaughter to Jacob, Teagan, maternal grandparents to Riftyn, Norbert Langelier and Penny Fleming, paternal grandparents to Riftyn, Garrett Heide and Shenez Huges, parents to Jacob, Garett Heide and Shenez Hughes, paternal great-grandparent Leonard Heide and maternal great-grandparent Sandy Hughes Bylander, uncles Charles, Steven, Rylan, Mike, Kyle, aunties Lori, Taylor, Kayleigh, Murrin, cousins Sylvie, Stella, Dakota. Riftyn and Jake’s extended family members Rafal, Edward, Edison, Eleanor, Leona, Derama, Danielle, Craig, Mitchell, Kamil and Sheila. Jacob was predeceased by his brother Ayden.

Riftyn Ayden Hughes was just a year old, born on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at 4:44 a.m. to Jacob and Leann at the St. Boniface hospital in Winnipeg. He weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19.1 inches long.

Riftyn will always remain his mommy’s precious baby, and Teagan’s little brother. They will always cherish the love and happiness he brought to all who knew him.

Riftyn enjoyed attempting to be an excellent gamer, playing with the gaming controller, just like his dad. He loved watching and listening to Cocomelon; it was his favourite. Riftyn was so gentle and sweet with his little cousin, Sylvie. He loved his sister, Teagan, and she adored her baby brother. Our happy little guy would light right up and have the biggest smile when he saw his big sister. Our dear Riftyn, we will keep your memory alive and share your pictures and videos with Teagan always.

Our precious little one, this is so difficult. We’ll always remember your huge smile and big gap in your front teeth. So darn cute! When you wanted to show affection, you gave the best head snuggles. We are all going to miss those special moments together.

Riftyn was our baby Angel, who lived among us for 14 months. Knowing that we won’t get to watch you grow up hurts so badly. Our beautiful little angel appears in the garden of eternity. Riftyn, our sweet baby boy, we love you so very much! When we see you again, these shattered shards of our hearts will then be mended.

Jacob Tristan Hughes was that special person who could make you feel better no matter what. He was always fun to be around because of his positive outlook on life and boundless energy. When people were in need, Jake was generous and went above and above to help them. He loved to work on anything, and if he was stuck, he would look it up on YouTube and give it a go. Jake attended Sisler High School and graduated in 2012. From March 2016 to the present, he worked at SRG Security Resources Group as an information security analyst. His employer is working on setting up a memorial bursary at Sisler High School in memory of Jacob and Riftyn.

Jake enjoyed spending time playing video games with his loved ones and friends, often well into the night. With his boundless computer knowledge, he would construct them from the ground up. He enjoyed going to the gym, going on hikes, travelling, hunting, kayaking, watching anime, and spending time with his family and friends. He made such a wonderful impact on so many people with his contagious smile, big heart, and optimistic outlook.

Jake was an exceptional and devoted father, partner, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Above all, he was a much-loved father who will be missed by everybody who knew him. His generosity, kindness and compassion will always serve as our compass in life. The day his son Riftyn was born was the day he cherished the most. He was an incredible dad, and Teagan will forever be lost. How she loved her “father and daughter” dates. He was a loving father, and as a dad he provided unwavering devotion, guidance, and love.

Jake’s departure leaves such a void which can never be filled, but his spirit will live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He would want us all to celebrate the life he lived and the impact he had on the hearts of so many.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Eulogy prior to service at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Laurent Roman Catholic Church with Father Paul Tinguely officiating.
