EVANGELINE OLIVE IRENE LANE

November 30, 1934 -

January 20, 2024

Evangeline was born to John and Lillian Benson on November 30, 1934 in Scandinavia, Manitoba. Evangeline grew up on the farm in Scandinavia with her parents and sister Violet.

Evangeline married Donald Jackson on June 20, 1953, and they moved to Minnedosa where they began their life together. Evangeline was a great cook making the best cinnamon buns and butter tarts. She was a member of the Covenant Church Ladies group and was always there to help with any lunches or teas.

A few years after Donald’s passing in July 1996, Evangeline became a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and started attending the dances with her friends. In September 2002, Evangeline married Bernard Lane and they spent a lot of their time attending dances throughout the countryside and taking in quite a few rounds of golf. They moved to Brandon and became active members of the Song Birds Choir. In 2020 Bernard and Evangeline moved into Victoria Landing Retirement Residence where they made lots of new friends and participated in many activities. Bernard passed away December 2021 and Evangeline remained living at Victoria Landing. She kept busy taking part in many of the activities and became an expert at Wii bowling. Evangeline really enjoyed the time she spent with her friends at Victoria Landing. She loved going out for lunch and on shopping trips with her family, and always enjoyed pizza or a smokie at family suppers. Evangeline was very thankful for her family who helped her and stayed with her when she became ill, which allowed her to remain at home as long as possible. Even after moving to the Assiniboine Centre her family stayed by her side until her passing on January 20, 2024.

Evangeline leaves behind her three children, Larry (Karen), Darlene (Charlie), and Cheryl (Mike); six grandchildren Corey (Jenna), Brennan (Marly), Dustin, Katelin, Brittany, and Jaycie (Luke); and nine great-grandchildren Cashe, Sophia, Fallyne, Hustyn, Brigham, Natalie, Heath, Nash, and Wyatt; her step-daughter Kathy and step-grandchildren Johnathon and Candace. She was predeceased by her sisters Violet, Florence, and Zedora; first husband Donald and second husband Bernard.

We will all miss and love our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother “forever and always”. A private family gathering will be arranged at a future date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or a charity of one’s choice.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Evangeline was a great person and will be missed. She and Bernard came to the barn dances at Mom and Dad's near Minnedosa, and many other dances. It was always a treat to visit with her. My heart breaks for all of you even though I've never met you. May the good memories give you comfort in the days to come. - Posted by: Doreen Delgaty (Family friend) on: Feb 17, 2024
