Eveline (Evelyne) Reese, aged 91 years, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024.
Predeceased by her husband, George Reese (1988), son, Martin, son-in-law, Mike, parents, Wilfrid and Yvonne, six sisters and five brothers.
Survived by Barry, Marilyne (Andrew), Carol Anne, six grandchildren, Kristen (James), Ryanne (Eric), Brittany (Randy), Charlaine (Matthew), Brandan (Nicole) and James (Alexandra), one great-grandchild, Kammeron, two sisters, Louisa and Fernande, brother-in-law, Walter, sister-in-law, Muriel, and many relatives from her large extended family.
Eveline, born July 4, 1932, in Notre-Dame-des-Pins, Quebec, learned English after moving to a farm near Guy, Alberta, at age 12. She received her Teacher Certification (1953), taught school in Alberta then NWT but was running a restaurant in Fort Smith when she met George, an HBC manager. They married in 1959. Four children quickly followed. In 1966 the family moved from Nipigon, Ontario to St. Boniface, Manitoba. Eveline obtained a BA (1969), M.Sc. (1971) and B.Ed. (1972) from the University of Manitoba. She taught and served as a guidance counsellor in schools in and near Winnipeg. She lectured at the U of Manitoba, worked as a family counsellor and ran her own private counselling service.
Eveline’s political career began in 1974 with her election as a councillor for Winakwa. Elected to municipal office four more times, she represented Langevin and St. Boniface as part of Winnipeg City Council until 1995. Her advocacy and community involvement were boundless. She made a difference!
Eveline moved from Winnipeg to Ontario in 1996 where other children and family resided. She continued to be active in her church, CWL, charitable and political endeavours. She enjoyed family gatherings throughout Canada and travel to Europe and the Holy Lands. She remained thankful for her parents, family and the life she was able to lead till the end.
Donations may be made to St. Bernard’s Residence, Mariann Home, Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood, Birthright Brampton, Alzheimer Society of Canada, or Agape Table Inc., Winnipeg.
Visitation will be Friday, March 8, 2024 at Desjardins Funeral Home, 357 Des Meurons Street, Winnipeg from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with prayers at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024 at St. Bernadette Parish, Winnipeg (Windsor Park), followed by interment in St. Boniface Cemetery with a gathering to follow in the Church Hall. A subsequent Memorial Mass will be held in Toronto from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Residence Chapel, 685 Finch Avenue West on Saturday, March 23, 2024 and a Celebration of Life gathering from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Westminster Reception Centre (Rose Hall), 5826 Bathurst Street, Toronto (North York).

Thinking of the Family at this time, especially Carol, as she was a friend of our daughter Carol. Carol attended Carol's wedding to Jim K.
