SHIRLEY JOAN CONKLIN

July 10, 1934 - February 16, 2024

It is with deep and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley Joan Conklin on February 16, 2024 at Betel Home Selkirk.

Shirley was predeceased by husband Donald Conklin; partner John Litwin; son David Conklin; mother Doris Simcoe; father William Simcoe; sister Mildred Bouzovetsky; brothers Zane Simcoe and Elven Simcoe; nieces Leslie Thingelstad and Janice Simcoe and nephew Raymond Simcoe.

Shirley will be forever remembered and deeply missed by her son Rick Conklin (Debbie); grandchildren Aynsley (Meagan) and Amanda (Courtenay); nephew Christopher Onofreychuk (Barbara); niece Karen Onofreychuk and numerous friends.

Shirley was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and spent most of her early years visiting family in and around Winnipeg Beach enjoying sun, sand and the Winnipeg Beach attractions. She moved to Thompson and Emerson, Manitoba but eventually settled in Gimli, Manitoba where she was employed at the Johnson Memorial Hospital for many years. Shirley had various interests over her lifetime which included hosting bus trips to casinos in Manitoba and the U.S, hosting Icelandic festival barbeques for friends and family, gardening, knitting fuzzy scarfs for everyone and donating to causes that deeply touched her. In her later years she became a devoted Toronto Blue Jays and curling fan and never missed watching any games if she could help it.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice.

There will be a private interment on a later date.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. Has been many years since we talked. Our sympathies to her family. Main memories are of her taking care and loving dad for many years in their time together before Dad passed. Will not be forgotten. - Posted by: Jerry Litwin (Friend) on: Feb 24, 2024
