JOHN (JACK) BENNETT

John H. Bennett, our father will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Born in Fort Rouge, Winnipeg, to Thomas Bennett and Edna Munro, Jack graduated at Kelvin High School in 1945. He attained his Chartered Accountancy Degree and worked at Great West Life for thirty five years. He retired as the Director of Marketing in 1983.
Jack’s one love was his wife Ruth. They met in 1943 and were married in 1951. They were married for sixty years before Ruth’s passing in 2012. He often called her the brains of the operation and missed her every day.
Jack loved the outdoors and enjoyed photographing nature. He appreciated his days at the family cottage at Hillside Beach where he worked on maintaining the cabin and property. Jack took many canoe trips in northern and central Manitoba, traversing the rivers and lakes with good friends. He later started to explore Quetico Park in northern Ontario and took his sons on numerous trips. Jack took up cross country skiing in his fifties and loved getting out in the winter to ski trails in Spruce Woods, Sandilands, Grand Beach and Kananaskis. His most frequent skiing was in Birds Hill Park. His love of the outdoors, skiing, canoeing, rollerblading and cycling kept him very fit.
Jack was a prolific reader and enjoyed all sorts of puzzles. He and Ruth hosted bridge games, and at the cottage he enjoyed playing cribbage and rummy with his children.
Jack was predeceased by his wife, Ruth and his daughter, Blair. He is survived by his daughter, Sydney and his two sons, Stephen and David, his seven grandchildren: John, Michael, Kristina, Alec, Alanna, Keith and Eli, and two great-grandchildren: Juniper and Isaiah.
A special thanks to the Key Home Care for the excellent care he received in his final six months from Maria, Amelia and Jenny.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish, a donation in Jack’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
