ELIZABETH (BETTY) HUSSEY

(nee HAMILTON)

April 8, 1932 - March 5, 2024

Just before her 92nd birthday, Betty passed away, with her loving family at her side, on March 5, leaving her Jumble and Crossword unfinished.

She will be greatly missed by Colleen (Tom), Wayne (Lori), Joanne (Greg), Lorri (Rob) and Rose. She was adored by her six grandchildren, Michael (Taylor), Melissa (Ryan), Phil (Puneet), Dylan (Sam), Julie (Jared) and Mandolyn (Erik). GG cherished and was cherished by her great-grandchildren, Coco, Levi, Lennon and Calvin. She is survived by her ‘little’ brother Larry (Gail).

In God’s hands, Betty will be reunited with many lost loved ones, especially her husband Len (1997), son Brian (2011) and older brother Jack (2023).

Betty was born in McAuley, MB where she learned to play the piano and played the organ for her church. At age 16, won a scholarship to go to college in the big city of Winnipeg at Manitoba Technical Institute where she met the love of her life, Len. Married in 1952 at King Memorial (now Gordon-King) and lived with Len’s parents on Scotia Street until they purchased their first home on Trent Avenue and moved to Donalda Avenue as the family expanded… five kids in seven years, yikes!

Once the kids were older, she happily got out of the house to sell Tupperware at home parties and then worked at Hudson’s Bay in statistics. Betty joined Len in the reserve as a Lieutenant for a few years. She bowled in a league for many years (her best game was 326) and at her 90th birthday party, she beat 10 out of 12 of her family members.

Betty and Len bought the Oasis Beach from their brother-in-law in 1976 and they ran it with their sons, Brian and Wayne for 19 years who then took over and that left Betty and Len time to travel. Travel and music was their passion. After Len passed away, Betty enjoyed volunteering at her church and spending winters on the west coast and Florida with family and friends.

Celebration of Betty’s life will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Gordon King Memorial United Church, 127 Cobourg Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, Betty would appreciate donations to her church, Gordon-King Memorial, for their many programs they run for the community.

  • Mrs Hussey was an amazing person. She always included me in their kids adventures. I still remember her taking all of us to see The Sound of Music. I believe that was the first movie I saw in a theatre. Also going to the Oasis was always a treat. She will be missed. My sincere condolences to the Hussey clan. My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Gary Alderson (old neighour) on: Mar 08, 2024

  • The Hussey and Schultz families had a friendship that lasted many years on Donalda, even after our family moved. Betty and Mom kept in close contact and Betty reached out to me when Mom could no longer do so. That spoke to the kind of person Betty was.
