ROBERT DUANE ARMITT

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Duane Armitt on February 26, 2024 at the age of 85.

Robert (Bob) is survived by his wife Velma; his step-children, Linda (Bruce), Mark, Heather (Peter); grandchildren, Caroline (Harmon), Alex, Tess, Sarah, and Jenna; his brother Allan (Joan); sister Mavis (Norman); nephews, nieces and grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

Bob is predeceased by his father Robert “Scotty” Armitt; his mother Jesse and his stepfather Leonard.

Bob was born in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1938 and moved to Interlake Manitoba in 1946. He grew up on the farm by Ledwyn. At the age of 15, Bob contracted Polio and then came to Winnipeg. He worked at Searle Grain for several years before starting at Canada Post in Registered Mail, where he worked for 31 years.

In his retirement years, Bob enjoyed travelling with Velma and spending time with family and friends.

Bob had a strength that we all admired and aspired to. He was a caring and generous person, and will always be remembered. We will miss you Grandpa Bob.

A special thank you to the staff at Brightwater and all those who helped with Bob’s care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the War Amps of Canada.

Funeral service will be Saturday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.

  • We offer our condolences to the family at this moment. Bob and I went to Tarno school together and enjoyed many good times together. We were neighbours and spent much of our younger years together. - Posted by: Larry soul? (School buddy) on: Mar 09, 2024

  • I worked alongside Bob at Canada Post for many years, and travelled to Europe with him and 2 other fellow workers in 1968. He was a great guy to be around. - Posted by: Don Cairns (Friend) on: Mar 09, 2024
