It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ella Ogonoski on March 9, 2024 at the age of 92.
Ella is survived by her son Albert and daughter Linda (Donald) Warren; grandchildren, Angela (Sean) O’Connell, Scott (Jennifer Walld) Ogonoski, Wesley Warren, Matthew (Lindsay Peters) Ogonoski; great-grandchildren, Cameron Warren Miller, Scarlett, Bennett, and Tessa Walld Ogonoski. She is also survived by her sister Stella Martin and sister-in-law Pat Valenta.
Ella was predeceased by her husband Walter; parents, Walter and Annie Valenta; brother Stanley Valenta and brother-in-law Ervin Martin.
Ella was born in Darlingford, MB. At the age of 12 she moved with her family to Cloverleaf. In 1949 she moved to Walkleyburg where she taught for one year at the local elementary school. In 1950 she met and married Walter and they would spent the next 62 years together, till his passing in 2012. In 1965 they moved to East Selkirk. From there they moved to Selkirk in 2000. She left Selkirk to spend the last four years at the Betel Home in Gimli.
Ella was first and foremost a wife and mother to her family. Her interests included gardening, socializing with her many friends, golf, bingo, playing cards, and travel. She and Walter, in their travels, visited Mexico, Hawaii, and many other locations throughout North America. They never missed a social event and if there was dance music playing you were sure to find her and Walter on the dance floor.
A special thank you to the staff at Betel Home Gimli for their diligent and professional care throughout the four years she resided at the home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Betel Home Gimli, or to a charity of your choice.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Ella’s life will be held in the spring.
