IRENE KATHERINE BENTHAM

With profound sadness and much love, we announce the peaceful passing of Irene Katherine Bentham, our wife, aunt, and friend on March 11, 2024. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 48 years Scott, and her nephews Todd Hamilton (his son Joel), James Sunset (his daughter Emma) and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents James and Anne Luchishin, and sisters Helen Hamilton and Doreen Sunset.

Irene grew up in Winnipeg, where she achieved a CPA and BAccSc and enjoyed her career in the accounting division of Manitoba Public Insurance.

Irene and Scott shared their time between their home in Charleswood and the cottage at Brereton Lake. Over the years, Irene loved playing with her many pups, taking them for strolls in the country and at the lake. They would spend hours together playing catch or chasing the balls and toys that she would throw in the water for them. Irene was an enthusiastic photographer, and loved capturing the wonderful moments at home, the lake, and on their many vacations. As well, each year she looked forward to designing, planting, and caring for her gardens at home and at the cottage. In all her activities, Irene’s love of nature showed through.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to one of many charities that offer care to animals or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.

  • Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Irene, especially to her loving husband Scott. I haven't seen Irene for years but as children we spent many happy summers together at my parent's farm. Although 6 years younger than Irene, I admired her developing self-confidence and strength of character.
