JOAN GERTRUDE HEMMERLING

September 8, 1939 – March 6, 2024

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Hemmerling (nee Wagner) with her family forever holding her in their hearts.

In her years as a caring, thoughtful, and generous stay-at-home mom, she had a love for family. She always had time to do special things for her children, whether it was sewing homemade doll clothes or making crafts for all occasions. Mom was also an avid gardener. Our yard was filled with lovely flowers that bloomed beautifully under her green thumb and the garden was filled with vegetables that she would freeze and can so as to last the season. She would also love to sit on the patio and listen to the birds, especially the chickadee that was thanking her for the water and bird seed she gave them daily.

Mom loved to go to craft sales, casinos, and shopping in the States with her daughters, Liz and Sandra. She also loved Saturday night card and board games with her family and friends. It was a great way for her to keep in touch with the ones she loved. All these special and cherished memories of mom will live forever with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to the nurses and doctors at Grace Hospital ICU for their caring and compassionate support of mom.

She will be sadly missed by her family: James, Joan (Alan), George (Marcy), Liz, and Sandra; her grandchildren: Pamela (Ernie), David, Steven, Danielle, Deana (JJ), and Melanie (Mackenzie); and her great-grandchildren: Gwendolynne, Rowan, and Nala.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, John, her daughter Caroline, her son John Jr., and her granddaughter Julia.

Mom was a blessing from above who filled our lives with love.

A private family ceremony will take place at a later date.
