It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of their mother and grandmother, Lidia Canelas, at the Grace Hospital on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
Lidia is survived by her children, Carlos (Lori) and Paulo; and her grandchildren, Nicholas (Rachelle) and Alexander (Meghan). She was predeceased by her husband Florencio Canelas.
Lidia with her children, emigrated from Portugal to Canada in October 1971 to join her husband. The family settled in Winnipeg and proceeded to make a new life in Canada. She quickly proceeded to take night classes to learn English and settle on a new job as a seamstress at Tan Jay, where she made many new friends and worked till her retirement at the age of 55.
After retirement she made regular trips back to Portugal to spend time with family and old friends that she never forgot.
A celebration of Lidia's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 27, 2024 at 603 Wellington Crescent.
