With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our father, Matthew Bakan, following a period of sickness.
Matthew was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Anaztazja Bakan.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Paul and Katherine; and his grandchildren Kaitlyn (Ben), Larysa (Mitchell), Abigail, and Grace.
Matthew came to Canada from the Slovak Republic as a young man. He met Anastazja in English school and they got married in June 1970.
Matthew was employed with CNR, Tatra Ornamental Ironworks and later on enjoyed his time driving school bus.
He loved volunteering at bingo and with the perogy making group at Holy Eucharist Church. He also loved his poker nights with the guys, golfing, bowling and his trip to Las Vegas.
We thank the Palliative Care Program for the compassionate care they demonstrated.
A funeral service will be held at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
