Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGILLIAN MARY TAYLOR
It is with great sorrow that the family of Gillian Mary Taylor must announce Gill’s passing away in ICU at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday March 19th at 11:30 a.m. with family members and friends at her bedside.
Gill was born on January 15, 1958, in the Eastbourne Maternity Hospital, East Sussex, England to Evelyn and Ken Taylor. She joined her siblings, Ann, Kathleen and John to be followed by the arrival of Wendi two years later.
Gill grew up in a Christian home, her father was a Lay Preacher and her mother ran Sunday school with regular attendance of over 40 children. Gill was a member of the Girl’s Brigade there where she would form friendships with many of her group that lasted her lifetime. Gill kept the Christian teachings close to her heart all her life; she walked the talk every day.
Gill left school at the age of 16 years and within a few months crossed the Atlantic Ocean accompanied by her stuffed monkey, Chico, and her guitar to join her oldest sister, Ann and her growing family in Rivers, Manitoba. A few months later she was hired as a Health Care Aide at the Brandon Mental Health Centre (BMHC) and so began her long career within the mental health field. When BMHC closed and after some training, she became a member of the team at the Crisis Centre here in Brandon. Later on, she was the very first staff member to be hired and begin duties at the Westman Support Services to help people combat addictions, working nights Fridays and Saturdays. She particularly liked this position as it gave her the opportunity to give people a hand up rather than a handout.
Gill was accomplished on a number of fronts; artwork, poetry, needle crafts, guitar, and her love of it all, her photographic skills. Ironically, just as covid restrictions were about to be eased, Gill was diagnosed with non-alcohol cirrhosis of the liver in March 2022. Her life was totally changed.
Gill was predeceased by her parents, Ken and Evelyn Taylor. Gill is survived by her sons, Chris (Shawna) and their children, Danna Mills, Alexis, and Larz; Robert and his children, Trinity, Vincent, Julian, and Delilah. Gill’s common-law spouse for nine loving years, Richard Wilding and Richard’s children, Adele and Carl; Gill’s sister Ann and her family in Rivers, MB; sister Kathleen (John) in Hampshire, England; brother John (Bonnie) and family in East Sussex, England; and sister Wendi and family in East Sussex, England. Gill’s best friend of 49 years, Dar Tufts Dunlop, friends, Aston Barrett, Karen Clelland and Kathie MacFarlane.
The family wishes to thank all who were involved on Gill’s behalf; the 911 operator who received the call at 11:15 a.m. of 18/3/24, all of the staff in the Emergency Department, Brandon Regional Health Centre, and all the staff in the ICU led by Dr. Weinberg when Gill was transferred there at 12 noon. Words of sincere gratitude are difficult to find that can adequately express our thanks to each and everyone of you. Last but by no means least, our thanks and admiration go to Dr. B. Turner of the Brandon Clinic Medical Corporation. From the time Gill saw Dr. Turner at the end of January 2022, multiple tests and consultations both here and in Winnipeg were ordered. We are certain that, without Dr. Turner’s quick and decisive immediate actions, Gill’s life would have ended much sooner than it did.
GILLIAN MARY TAYLOR: A JEWEL ON THE CROWN OF LIFE. May light perpetual shine upon her.
Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Gill's life will be announced and held at a later date.
If friends so desire, they may make donations to local charities that care for humanity.
