MARC JOHN HORNBECK

A Celebration of Life for Marc John Hornbeck will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Marc at the age of 72. He passed peacefully, with family by his side, on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

Lovingly remembered by his wife and partner of 53 years, Louise; his sisters, Carol (George deceased), Fay (Dennis deceased), Donna (Patrick deceased) and brother, Dale (Monica). Numerous nieces and nephews are also left to carry on his memory. Marc was predeceased by his parents, George and Margaret.

Marc was born on April 7, 1951, in Winnipeg. It was here that a strong work ethic was instilled at a young age. In his youth, he spent many summers at George Lake, which led him and his brother Dale to later search out a THEN remote location on Corkscrew lsland to stake their new claim. With a lot of help from his friends he built his cottage paradise. It took 30 years to complete with much music, a few drinks, many tall tales and discussions to solve world problems.

Most of Marc's career was spent in sales where he totally emerged himself in the trade. Aligning with his lifelong love of music, he got his start in sales at MCTR as a Record Distributor. From there he moved on to become a Sales Representative for Panasonic, where he truly thrived. He enjoyed the challenges and meeting the numerous dealers which provided him with a whole new set of friends and colleagues across the country.

Marc had an extremely full life, which allowed him many incredible opportunities and adventures. He loved to travel, with many dealer and president's club trips taking him as far away as Japan. There were numerous trips to BC, Florida, and in retirement, he enjoyed cruising the Mediterranean and the Panama Canal. His nephew even wangled him on a trip to Churchill.

His shop on Brock Street was a great point of pride and joy where he continued to build furniture and take on the many projects his family and friends threw at him. It also afforded him a place to have a drink with the boys and an escape from his wife.

Marc was a force to be reckoned with, a very fortunate man. He engaged with everyone he met, definitely had the gift of gab, was quick to laugh and possessed the ability to regale all with his antics and stories! He learned life lessons from all he met and he encouraged others with their careers, aspirations and activities. All were always welcome in our home and still are. We were blessed to have Marc's love, friendship and support.

I miss you Bossy Boots. You touched

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am so saddened to hear that Marc passed away earlier this year. May you find comfort and laughter as you celebrate his life and share memories with family and friends. When I heard the news, so many memories of my own came flooding back to me. I remember Marc as a youth from those summers our families spent together at George Lake. Being about four years older than Dale and I, he was always coming up with ideas for some new venture and we were the eager participants - most of the time anyway. I remember Marc as being a kind and generous person. Throughout those turbulent years in the '70s when Dale and I were becoming young adults, he invited us to his parties, gave us demo records, spent time with us. In later years Marc kept in touch with phone calls to share family news or offer condolences. One special memory for me happened on the day John Lennon was shot. Marc was coming over to my place to help with moving a few things and we ended up spending a couple hours at the NorVilla Hotel reminiscing on the life of John Lennon. This is how I remember Marc. Louse, my heart aches for you for the loss of your life long husband and partner. I cannot imagine the depth of your grief, so early - too soon. Dale, I cried tears for you for the loss of your brother, so early - too soon. I lost my own brother Kurt thirteen years ago and still have moments of grief. I will be thinking of you on Saturday as you celebrate the life of this amazing individual. Please raise a toast to Marc on my behalf.
