IRENE BIRIN

April 25, 1937 - April 4, 2024

On Thursday, April 4, 2024, with her daughter by her side, Irene Birin passed away peacefully at Rideau Park Personal Care Home. She would have been 87 years old on April 25th.

Life wasn’t always easy for Irene. As a single mom and living with Gillian-Barré for most of her life, she sacrificed a lot for her children, working through everything, doing the best she could. She had a big heart and loved to be there for anyone that needed help.

Irene was a long-time employee at Woolworths, where she had many friends. After her diagnosis, she moved to Yellowknife to work in a school environment with teens who had a troubled life. She treated each of those students as her own and in return, they had much respect for her. Some of the students still called her after the program came to an end.

Irene made many good friends in Yellowknife who were near and dear to her heart. It meant a lot to her that they kept in touch throughout the years.

As the Toronto Blue Jays #1 fan, she never missed a game. She knew all the players and their stories. In spirit she is going to help them win the series this year.

She was predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Amadee Lacharite; brothers, Alvin (Marlene) and Leon (Kay) Lacharite; one niece and a few nephews.

Irene leaves behind her sister Rita Robertson; daughter Dawna; son Dennis; grandchildren, Justin and Sara and many nieces and nephews.

Thank you so much to Barb Lacey and Sandy Brown who played a huge part in Mom’s life. You were always there, always caring and always someone she could count on.

Rideau Park Personal Care Home was a place Irene called home for many years. She always said, “they treat me so well here”. She had many friends, loved sharing her books and her snacks but kept her Coca Cola’s to herself. A huge thank you goes out to the caregivers. There were a few very special caregivers, you know who you are. Thank you so much.

The family will cherish her memory privately. As a tribute to Irene, son Dennis made her a beautiful urn. She will be so happy. Irene has left that old broken body behind and will be smelling sweet peas and dancing in the clouds. She is now at peace.
