FREDRICK (FRED) WILLIAM ESLINGER

February 22, 1939 - April 3, 2024


Late April 3, 2024, Fredrick (Fred) William Eslinger passed away at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, Manitoba. Fred was 85 years old.

Fred was born to Fred and Agnes Eslinger and was raised on the family farm near Roblin, Manitoba. He attended the University of Manitoba and obtained his degree in agriculture. There he met Harriet Wilkins who was attending St. John’s College. They were married in 1963.

Fred and Harriet raised four children: Robert (Rita), Adelle (Donald), Alan, and Catherine (Courtney). They have nine grandchildren.

Fred worked for the Manitoba government as a municipal assessment officer for 32 years. He worked in the Winnipeg, Dauphin, and Brandon offices in his career until his retirement in 1994.

In retirement, Fred worked part-time for H&R Block, was active in the Brandon Rotary Club, and his church. His recreational interests included photography, woodworking, reading, and camping.

Fred was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by Harriet, his wife of 61 years, his sister Carolyn (Gordon) Simpson, his four children, and nine grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the Brandon Fire and Emergency Service, doctors, nurses, and staff of the Brandon Regional Health Centre Emergency Department and the Assiniboine Centre for their compassionate care for Fred in his last days. Special thanks to the staff of Victoria Landing for the love and care provided Fred over the last two plus years.

A funeral service will be held at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, 403 13th Street, Brandon, MB on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Fred’s memory can be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Ave., Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 in support of palliative care or any other charity of choice.
