He grew up on Bannatyne Avenue and for many years delivered newspapers and worked for the local drug store making deliveries on his bicycle. He spent many hours building a waterfront cottage on Caddy Lake in 1958 and another on Lee River in 1979. He also built two homes for his family in Charleswood on Marlton Crescent and Betsworth Drive. He later built six condo units in Lac du Bonnet. They eventually moved into their unit in 2010 where they lived until 2023.

I have fond memories of Mel while working at Carlson Decorating Co. Ltd. After leaving Carlson’s in 1969, I had the opportunity of assisting Mel with establishing payroll procedures, during the formation of his new Painting & Decorating Co. Mel was respected by all who knew him including those he worked with as well as representatives from various Paint Companies. His kindness, humor and smile were legendary, R.I.P.
