WAYNE MARCEL TAILLIEU

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our father and grandfather, Wayne Taillieu, on April 6, 2024, at De Salaberry District Health Centre in St. Pierre-Jolys at the age of 74 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Tammy (Brent), Shelly (Paul), and Jody (Dale); grandchildren, Kayla (Brandon), Brett (Nicole), and Miya; siblings, Wendy and Garry; in-laws, Fred, Sharon, and Michelle (Stefphany); a whole bunch of “bonus” grandchildren, Brandee, Jordyn, Nick, Angel, Jani, Keenan, Kendra and great-grandchildren, James, Ella, Lily, Paisley, Brantley, Adeline, Dalton, Danika; and many other family members and friends. Wayne was predeceased by his wife, Lynda; granddaughter, Destiny; parents, Heather and Marcel; sibling, Elaine; nieces, Wendy and Karen; and in-laws, Barry, Joyce, John, and Bill.

Dad was born in Winnipeg on May 23, 1949, and spent his childhood growing up on the family dairy farm in Charleswood. We heard many stories about the adventures (aka trouble) dad got into during his youth, such as sneaking into the bullpens, hiding his broken arm after a leap from a barn, and some “unexplained” car accidents as a youth. We also heard that dad had somewhat of a favoured status growing up, and we still can’t really figure out why he was the only kid in the family who had their own pony. It is likely that his farm upbringing contributed to his love of animals that was apparent throughout his life. It was definitely not unusual for dad to bring home stray dogs and cats that always ended up becoming part of the family.

Dad married the love of his life, Lynda, at Westminster United Church on October 2, 1971. The arrival of Tammy and Shelly occurred shortly after, followed by Jody (the baby) a few years later. One of the other great loves of dad’s life was building things, and he left high school at age 16 to pursue his dream of becoming a journeyman carpenter at Red River College. We always had the best play-houses (two stories and everything), and he built several homes from the ground up for us and other family members, including a massive addition to the home he lived in right up until his passing. The arrival of his grandchildren brought new joy to dad’s life; they were truly the light of his life. He spent many hours with his grandchildren (even learning how to change diapers) and helped them build some amazing creations.

Dad was generous with his talents and was a mentor to many over the years. He was also the kind of guy who would give you his last five dollars. Dad was a hard-working man with a kind heart and soul. Thank you for teaching us all to always dream big. We will miss you.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
