CST. RICHARD (DICK) WALTER ARNOLD

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our husband, father and papa in his 77th year on April 12, 2024, from a brief illness.

Dick will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon of 42 years, daughter Heather (James Fraser), son Christopher and grandsons, Finlay and Brecken.

Dick joined the R.C.M.P. in 1967, following in the footsteps of his father. Most of his 31 year career, Dick was stationed in central and northern Manitoba. He loved the north and everything it offered, returning to some postings more than once. He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing and all the friendships he made along the way. When he couldn’t access remote lakes by road, Dick took his pilot’s license and bought a float plane. One of his most memorable trips of a lifetime was his trip to Nahanni, N.W.T. Dick’s last posting was in Oak Bank from 1987 until his retirement in 1998. After retirement, he spent a few years doing what he loved most, guiding in remote fishing lodges.

Winter vacations became an adventure and each year we would find a different warm destination. We met some great friends and still to this day keep in touch. After experiencing many warm vacation spots we found the one we loved the most…Maui. Our last trip was in 2023.

Animals (pets and wild) were very important to Dick, there was always a cat in his home. He loved his dog “shadow” and trained him to go bird hunting with him. He nursed many injured wild animals and released them back into the wild.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Seasons Funeral Chapel, 576 Balsam Crescent in Oak Bank.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dick’s memory to Humane Society, Pet rescues, or Wildlife rehabilitation.

You were my best friend, soul mate and knight in shining armour (aka Mountie). You took this small town girl and turned her into a fisherwoman, marksman, and showed her the outdoors had so much to offer. Never did I worry about my safety with a Mountie by my side. Remote fishing with no cell phone, no contact with anyone, no problem, I never worried as I knew you had my back.

Rest in Peace my love
