VAN RENSELAAR
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Garry at Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon with his loving wife Marlane by his side.
Garry was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Beertja and Janny, brother Eb and beloved wife Agnes.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marlane Wilson and his children, Anita (Mark), Earl and Dale, his stepchildren, Christy (Darren) and Corey, as well as his grandchildren, Amber (Kevin), Chelsey (Kristopher), Sarah, Luke, Chanelle (Romar), Brooklyn (Christopher), Marley and Cooper. He also leaves seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Dad was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1951 at a young age of 18 with only a few possessions. His dream was to own his own farm. He arrived in Brandon where he met and married Agnes. After working a number of jobs around Brandon, Dad and Mom were able to buy a farm where they happily worked and raised their family until their retirement. Dad was a proud farmer for many years and after his retirement enjoyed helping Earl whenever he could by driving the combine or just bringing coffee to the field. Besides the farm, Dad enjoyed travelling. Many trips were taken to see family in Holland or Mom’s family in Ontario.
At the age of 50, Dad decided he wanted to learn to fly and was able to get his pilot’s license. He bought a plane and he and Mom would fly all over the province and to Ontario to visit family. A highlight for him was flying with Earl to Alaska.
Dad was a very proud man who loved his family and friends dearly. He would always give a warm hello and a firm handshake to everyone he met. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
We would like to thank Marlane for her faithful companionship, as well as the wonderful staff at Rideau Park Care Home for the compassionate care he received in his final years.
The Celebration of Garry’s Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon, MB, on Wednesday April 24th at 1:00 p.m. with reception to follow. A private family interment will take place prior to the service at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
