ROBERT FREDERICK IRVINE

1943 - 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bob on April 14, 2024.

Left to cherish Bob’s memory are his daughter Debbie (Shawn), his son Rob (Laura), grandchildren, Ryan, Alyssa, Shelby, Kyle, Hannah and Riley, step-grandchildren, Maddy, Owen and Ben, his great-grandchildren, and his siblings, John (Kim), Marlene and Laurel, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his wife Diane, his parents, Robert and Daisy, his identical twin Tommy, and his sisters, Kay and Brenda.

Bob was a hard worker, starting his career in the food industry at a young age. He worked at the very first Champs in Winnipeg and went on to the Salisbury House, after which he joined the Navy where he continued his culinary work as the cook on the HMCS Swansea. After leaving the Navy Bob was a chef at the International Inn and subsequently at the Lincoln Motor Hotel. He had a knack for creating wonderful recipes which flourished when he was the Plant Manager at Ready Foods, ultimately retiring from there in 2007.

Bob had many interests, one of which was his love of model railways. He built quite the model town in our family home on Seven Oaks Avenue. He always had a love for music and even took dance lessons at Penguin Dance Studios where he learned to jive and cha cha.

Many happy times were shared by Bob and family at their cottage at Sandy Hook where Bob was able to indulge his love of fishing. He was an avid fisherman who took many trips across Canada to further his passion for the sport. He even purchased a flotation suit so that he could be in the water while fishing, especially at Great Slave Lake.

Cremation has taken place. Bob will be buried with his identical twin, Tommy, in a private ceremony at Elmwood Cemetery.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life in Bob’s memory on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Tenant Recreation Room, 50 Alpine Avenue (beside the Travelodge) in Winnipeg.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I have just learnt of Bob's passing today, Saturday, August 17th. My heart goes out to his family. Bob was truly a wonderful, kind, and generous man. On my first day at Readyfoods, Bob gave me his dictionary (which I still have and cherish) because I mentioned that I was a terrible speller. My mother, Emily Williamson also has very fond memories of both Diane and Bob. She always mentioned that they were the best neighbors and friends.
