WALTER KWASIUK

September 12, 1933 - April 13, 2024

On April 13, Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep.

He is survived by his beloved wife Irene; son Lenny; sisters, Emily Deneka, Jean Lewicki, and Francis (Walter) Chobotar and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Stefan and Maria Kwasiuk, parents-in-law, Peter and Mary Krupnik; sister Nettie (Paul) Smolinski; and brother-in-law Metro Deneka.

Dad was born in Ledwyn, Manitoba on September 12, 1933. He attended Tarno school. He married Mom on September 3, 1955, and moved to Sioux Lookout, Ontario where he was employed in the transfer business and grocery store.

Dad and Mom then bought his parents’ farm where they carried on a mixed farming operation. Dad liked to take on an active role in his community. He served on the Tarno School Board, Arborg Co-op Board and was a councillor for 27 years for the R.M. of Bifrost, where he served on various committees and boards, and as Deputy Reeve for a while. He was always happy to see improvements in the rural community.

Dad really enjoyed farming and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed travelling through the countryside and he and Mom took many trips together throughout the U.S., Canada and a couple into Mexico.

After retiring, he and Mom moved to Arborg where they enjoyed their daily morning coffee with their friends at the Arborg Co-op or Chicken Chef.

During fishing season, they were regulars at Hnausa dock, always enjoying the day. Dad was a hard worker and a wonderful role model.

We would especially like to thank all the staff at the Arborg Hospital, Mary Thorarinson Assisted Living and the Arborg Personal Care Home for all their incredible care and kindness during Dad’s stays there.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Parkinson’s Society or a charity of your choice.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Silver Hall, Silver, Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Irene & Lenny, So sorry for the loss of your dear husband and father! We met him again when we both ended up in Emergency at Gimli Hospital on March 19. While we were at the hospital, we had a great visit with Lenny and Walter. Irene and Walter were blessed with one son Lenny! We will remember how caring and loving he was taking care of his father while he waited to see the doctor. I said to Lenny, "when I get home I need to have a big cry! "Not only for myself and for Walter". Rest in peace Walter. God bless Irene and Lenny. In loving memory, Lloyd & Jeannette Roche. - Posted by: Lloyd & Jeannette Roche (Great friends!) on: Apr 20, 2024
