WILLIAM WILBERT THOMPSON

December 8, 1953 - April 12, 2024

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Bill Thompson on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the age of 70.

Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol of 36 years; brothers, Alan (Janet), Nick (Alaina); brother-in-law Randy Park (Cecile); numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Eric and Elsie; and parents in-law, Ken and Emily Park.

Bill met Carol in the early 1980s. They married in 1987 and made their home in Transcona. Bill enjoyed driving so numerous road trips were taken to Arizona and the West Coast. Together they explored Manitoba visiting small towns; often stopping for a bite to eat, including his favourite, a hot dog at Lockport. He enjoyed their winter vacations in Mexico and Cuba.

Bill loved the outdoors and camping, especially in the Whiteshell. He had a passion for hunting using rifles, black powder and archery. He belonged to several wildlife and game associations. He enjoyed fishing and loved to be out on the water in his boat. He also enjoyed cycling, riding his quad, and snowmobiling with his friends. Bill was a sports fan and enjoyed cheering for the Bombers and the Jets, especially with the guys in Norm’s garage.

Bill was employed with Manitoba Hydro (and formally Winnipeg Hydro) for 32 years, retiring in 2016. He was a welder who took pride in his work. He particularly looked forward to occasionally working in Pointe du Bois, Thompson and other out-of-town locations.

Bill was a kind, thoughtful and generous person behind a gruff exterior. He enjoyed nature, was a good cook and loved to BBQ with a beverage. He had a good sense of humour and always had a quick, one-liner to share. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of the third floor of Concordia Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.

  • My Condolences to Carol and family. This is an absolute Shock to me. I first met Bill at Beaks Hunting and fishing that was on Main St. in Winnipeg back in the day. Bill loved to hang out there, chat hunting, shooting his bow and of course making us laugh. Bill and I became close friends and we went on many hunting adventures throughout the years. I was always welcome at Bill and Carols home to visit. When I moved out of town Bill and I grew apart. But every single time I talked to him my first words were always (You going to sell me that Browning BSS yet ?) and of course he just laughed. I’m going to miss you my old friend. Thanks for all those great memories from my younger years. Darren Shipp. - Posted by: Darren Shipp (Friend ) on: Apr 26, 2024
