EDWARD (TED) WILLIAM GOOD

April 3, 1924 – December 21, 2023

After a long and rewarding life with many successes, Ted Good, age 99 passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Fairview Home.

Ted was a lifelong resident of Brandon, where he grew up on 10th street with his parents Albert and Gertrude. During his youth at his grandparents' house, Ted was surrounded by music, which inspired him to begin playing the piano by ear.

His family were members of the Salvation Army and that is where he met Walter Dinsdale, who taught him how to play cornet.

The love of music was quickly realized and when he was of age, he joined the Navy and became a member of the HMHC Chippewa Band playing trumpet.

In 1944, he married Pamela Jean Jacquet. They moved back to Brandon and built their home on 24th street.

After spending many years working at the CPR Express, he was convinced he should take his talent of music and work at it full time.

Dad’s achievements were many. He started music in small western Manitoba towns. Dad would load up his station wagon with music teachers and off they would go for the day. He had bands in Virden, Hamiota, Shoal Lake, Strathclair, Neepawa and Carberry. The largest bank was the Brandon Sea Cadet Navy Band where in 1967 travelled to Montreal and performed at the World’s Fair.

One of Dad’s highlights was performing with the Neepawa band at Clear Lake for the Queen and her family. Being a band master and shaking her hand was a thrill for him. He had many great experiences in his life, which he was always so grateful for.

When Mom and Dad retired, they wintered in Indio, California where he met many wonderful friends. They enjoyed 15 years in the sun. Dad always liked a good time and wanted to share that positivity with everyone.

Left to enjoy all his memories are daughter Bonnie Owens, granddaughter Kim, (Dave), great-grandchildren Connor and Jace Mills; granddaughter Shauna, (Will) Owens-Krahn, great-grandchildren Dylan Schrader and Brooke Schrader; daughter Judith Hockney, grandson Richard (Sarah), great-grandchildren Easton, Liley and Ivy Hockney, granddaughter Pamela; daughter in law Laraine Good (granddaughters Tracy Good and Laurie Good, great-grandson Lucas Moroski–Good.

Ted was predeceased by his wife Pam and son Bill.

A Celebration of Ted’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon, MB.

Donations in memory of Ted may be to The Salvation Army, 9 Princess Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 1R8 or a charity of choice.

  • Ted was a tireless supporter of music and musicians. He was also very kind-hearted and generous; I recall wanting/needing to buy a Selmer Bari. I just did not have the whole amount; Ted told me to make a small down-payment and follow with "gig-related" payments. I recall that it took me over two years to complete the cost (Maybe he was not a great business man :) Dr. Brian Harvey, Seattle, Washington - Posted by: dr. brian harvey (friend) on: Apr 27, 2024
