CYNTHIA BLANCHE FUGA

(nee CARDAMONE)

May 1, 1952 - April 20, 2024

Peacefully, surrounded by family, Cynthia passed away suddenly after a courageous and successful battle with cancer, at the Health Sciences Center on April 20, 2024.

Leaving to mourn her loss are her husband of 47 years, Dale, sons Graham (Alisen) and Adam (Jessica), sisters Barbara Taylor (Robert), and Brenda Winchar (Barry) and Brenda’s three children Brad (Kristee), Gavin (Tiffany), and Cory (Jillian) and their families, mother-in-law Olga Fuga and sister-in-law Lesley Fuga, and grandchildren John, Nina, and Alexis, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Florence and Francis ‘Frank’ Cardamone and father-in-law Anthony ‘Tony’ Fuga.

Cynthia grew up in the St. Vital area of Winnipeg embracing both her Italian and Ukrainian heritage. She excelled at athletics and academics in school and university. Through her love of the outdoors and adventure, Cynthia met Dale while scuba-diving, the first of many adventures they shared together. Pursuing her interests in sport and helping others, Cynthia chose to become a Physiotherapist. When her professional career was cut short due to an injury, and with Fibromyalgia limiting her physical abilities, she shifted to being a full-time support for her family at home and volunteering and providing support for her children’s school and activities. Among her many contributions, she taught pre-natal classes and was a very active member with the Fibromyalgia Support Group of Winnipeg, Inc., providing help, education and information to others in need.

Cynthia enjoyed spending quality time with family, especially at the family cottage, and providing hospitality to family, friends and neighbours - always welcoming all. She enjoyed celebrating all holidays and events and embraced traditions. She was particularly proud of carrying on Ukrainian Christmas and Easter traditions, preparing dishes as taught to her by Dale’s grandmothers (Babas), and passing the dishes, recipes and traditions along to her children and grandchildren. Cynthia was proud to become a Baba herself. She loved all her grandchildren deeply and found great joy being with them, always ready to read a story, tell a joke, bake, or play with the best costumes and props. She was a kind and gentle woman who was always ready to lend an ear and served as an excellent role model for all of those around her. She will be dearly missed by many.

The family would like to thank the staff of CancerCare Manitoba for their care and assistance though this difficult past year as well as the many friends, family and others who provided their prayers and unwavering support.

The funeral service and burial will be held at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB at 2:00 p.m. on April 30, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary the Protectress, St. Amant Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
